The Markets (East)

The Markets (West)In some areas residents find it difficult to park near their homes. This can be a big problem for parents with young children or elderly and less mobile people - and it can seriously affect their quality of life.

A Controlled Parking Zone can often resolve these difficulties by helping to control intrusive parking. It can limit or eliminate commuter parking and give priority to residents and short term parking (e.g. shoppers or visitors).

Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ)

A CPZ is an area where all on-street parking is controlled. This means that parking is only permitted in designated parking areas (or bays) and the remainder of the kerbside space is subject to yellow line restrictions.

It is proposed that the CPZ will be implemented through the introduction of the following measures:

Permit Only Parking Areas
These are normally ‘shared surface’ areas where there are no footways.
Only vehicles displaying a valid permit can park in these areas. This is to allow Carer Permits and Special Permits to be used here.

Mixed Use Areas
These are normally traditional streets with footways. Only vehicles displaying a valid permit OR a valid ‘pay and display’ ticket can park in these areas (Blue Badge holders get a 3-hour concession period).
